I once saw a tv show about a young princess and a soothsayer. The soothsayer explained that with each life decision, we are pulling a thread and getting everything that comes with it. The unpicked threads—all those possibilities that will never be realized, children who will never be born and loves she will never know,

Older women are often overlooked in American life, from literature and movies to corporate boardrooms. But things are changing for the better and we’ve earned our wrinkles, and we have a lot of wisdom to share. Many of us are at a unique and calm place in our lives now, free from all the responsibilities our younger selves expertly juggled. Now we have the time to pursue our dreams of being writers. Welcome.
No one tells the oceans
or the trees
or the mountains that they’re too old.
They talk of how powerful,
how grounded,
how awesome they are.
Imagine if we thought the same way about ourselves as we got older.
Maybe we’d realize how spectacular we are.
